Maharishi Gandharva Veda music We all experience the influence of music on our emotions. Some music creates very fine feelings in our hearts, it relaxes, other music makes us feel more excited, it makes us dance. There are endless music styles for us to listen to. Jazz, classical, pop, rock, country, folk are a few. Everyone of them has a certain influence on us and we choose the style, or artist that gives us the mood we like most. Music is a great blessing. It soothes us when we don't feel too good, or helps us unwind after a busy day. Transformations in nature There is one music style which as well as creating a certain atmosphere, also balances the different transformations that take place in nature during the day. There are different laws of nature functioning throughout the day and night, such as the Sun rising at dawn and setting in the evening. We as human beings are directly under the influence of all these laws of nature and we have to adjust to all the transformations that occur. As these influences are very subtle, we might not notice them, but according to the knowledge of Gandharva Veda, they are taking place and are directly influencing our physiology and our mind. Balancing influence of Ragas, the rhythms of nature Ayurveda, the science of perfect health, emphasizes that we need to maintain balance in our physiology in order to stay healthy and fit.
That's why Gandharva Veda is unique. It's a music style which helps us to live life in balance. It's music which not only gives us a pleasant mood or feeling, but it is composed of certain rhythms of nature which, if played or listened to at the right time of day or night, has a harmonizing influence on us and on our environment. Listening to the Ragas at the right time of day Maharishi Gandharva Veda has been established to have these melodies played at the right time of day, because each part of the day has its specific qualities most lively.
It is advised to listen to Gandharva Veda music with the eyes closed, sitting in an easy chair, or lying on bed. It's not meant as background music. Maharishi Gandharva Veda music can be played on different instruments, such as sitar, flute, sarangi and also vocal. You can therefore make your choice on the basis of your own preferences. The Veda tells us that Gandharva Veda is the music played by the Gandharvans (heavenly musicians) in heaven. I personally find that the effects, the fine emotions and positive influence on the physiology and also the experience of bliss and wholeness, are unique to Gandharva Veda music. Therefore I can fully recommend to regularly listen to the melodies of Gandharva Veda. It may open a new world of music enjoyment for you.
